Arepas + Filling Ideas
Venezuelan-style corn cakes made from masarepa, cooked golden and split for fillings.
Method
1 steps, about 30 minutes
-
01Pour the warm water into a large bowl with the salt and gradually sprinkle in the masarepa, stirring between additions. 2. Knead gently for a minute, then rest the dough 10 minutes; it should be moist but not sticky. 3. Divide into 6 portions, roll into balls, and flatten into disks about 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick, smoothing any cracks with wet fingers. 4. Cook in an oiled pan over medium heat about 5 minutes per side until golden brown, working in batches. 5. For extra crispness, bake 10 minutes at 360 degrees F. 6. Cool briefly, cut a pocket into each arepa, and stuff with your favorite fillings.
